Cooking Comically: Recipes So Easy You'll Actually Make Them

Best Gift I Ever Bought My Husband
My husband does most of the cooking in our home (not to mention the cleaning, yard work, gardening/farming, etc.). In his search for new recipes to try, he stumbled across Cooking Comically. Everyone enjoyed the chili he made from the website's recipe, so he added the book itself to his Amazon wishlist. When I saw it on his list and I needed something to round out an order for the free shipping, I bought it for him.I'm going to admit I was skeptical about everything in the book. The layout is great - full of pictures for each step. The directions for each recipe are easy to follow. And the comic illustrations and geek references are hilarious. But the recipes just seemed so... "throw these random things together in a college dorm kitchen and hope for the best."Still, I purchased everything my husband needed to try a week's worth of recipes, and then promptly forgot he was even using the book. Because, hey, I have to focus on bringing home the bacon for him to fry. Or, in this case, it was hamburgers. And lasagna. And mozzarella sticks. And pizza. My beloved domestic engineer has cooked all of these things before, but using the long, complicated recipes we already had or learned elsewhere. When he served up lasagna that he told me took no more than 15 minutes to prepare before he put it in the oven, of course I was ready for it to taste... well, not fabulous. Especially with cottage cheese as one of the ingredients - that just seemed weird. The lasagna was so amazing, I am going to get rid of the recipe I've used for 20 years - the one that takes 1 hour of prep and 1 hour of baking. The hamburgers were so good, my son and I both tried to pilfer my husband's from his plate. The mozzarella sticks were so delicious, we told him to make a double batch next time. And the pizza? The deep dish, very simple to layer in a baking dish and throw in an oven, pizza? It was to die for.So pick up Cooking Comically, enjoy the references to LOTR (po-tay-toes) and The Princess Bride, and then go forth and cook geekily. The results are nothing to laugh at. (**Please note, there is explicit language in this book, which is just fine for us, but not for everyone. Personally, we laughed our @$$e$ off from cover to cover.**)

Warning: This book might actually make you believe you know how to cook.
This is the best cookbook I have ever found. Before I owned this cookbook I didn't know how to cook anything that didn't come in a box with instructions. Now I'm constantly throwing together recipes from this book for parties, dates, special occasions, casual meals, any excuse I can find. I've probably made about 50-75% of the recipes in this book, and so far all of them are as delicious as they are easy. It is currently my personal goal to make every recipe in this book at least once. A goal which would probably be easier to achieve if I didn't keep going back to the recipes I've already made because they were just THAT good.Pros:-Easy recipes-Delicious food-Makes cooking fun (cliche I know, but still true)-Fun to read-Simple straightforward instructions-Even the most inept cook can make delicious food with this book (as long as you know how to use fire and knives safely)-Gives you the chance to work with fire and knives in your own home!Cons:-Sexy Pancakes recipe has a typo (DO NOT USE 3 1/2 CUPS OF BAKING POWDER! That should be 3 1/2 tsp)-Cook needs to be can opener, knife, oven, or stove certified for many of these recipes-Anyone you serve these recipes too will constantly be asking you to make them all the time because they're so delicious-Seriously, I made sexy pancakes for some girl the morning after our first date, and now she lives with me! Be careful who you cook for!-Head may explode from sheer awesomeness

Thank you Mr. Capps
I don't even like cooking, but this book has helped me look at it in a rather fun way. Most of the recipes are simple and they're kind of templates for more complicated things, but for someone who has little experience in the kitchen, getting 3 or 4 pages with pictures and photographed instructions with jokes and cartoons was the right way to go. Most of these recipes could have been summarized in a simple paragraph, but then I wouldn't even bother. A picture speaks louder than a thousand words.Do note, that while some of the recipes are easy to make, they're not necessarily quick. These are not quick dishes, they're just easy to follow through. Sometimes you'll have to wait even a couple of hours while the oven gremlins do their job and transform your random bunch of ingredients into something edible, so plan ahead. Sometimes the ingredients are of the "I've never bought this before" category but the pictures usually show you the bottle or box and there's a list of ingredients at the end of each recipe so you can get the names as well.Someday I'll do the lasagna one, but that won't fit in my toaster oven. I'll need my stove oven for that, but that one is always full of pots and pans and it's... kinda scary. I use a gas stove and I don't want to blow up my kitchen.By the by, I didn't know spices could change something's flavor in such a remarkable way. Thank you, Mr. Capps, for giving this book to us kitchen neophytes!

Bought for the bf as a Xmas present since his cooking left much to be desired! Since giving this book I've enjoyed the winders of pulled pork and jambalaya and couldn't be more chuffed! I read the blog and loved it, the book is beautifully illustrated in Capp's style referencing nerdy stuff which I love! Language can be a little rude but would be an ideal gift for teen lads or even boyfriends/dads who need cooking help. Enjoy!!

Easy Cooking
I love this book it does what it says and that means it shows you recipes so easy you'd actually make them. The humour in the book is a welcome change from other books out there and my partner and I have gotten a few giggles out of it.I recommend it to anyone and everyone who has even a tiny interest in cooking.
